Soy has one of the highest amounts of linolenic (omega 3) in land organisms, as is the case in ocean-based organisms, soy increases its unsaturated fatty acids content at lower temperatures[1]. As the unsaturated fats get increased in cold weather so does the estrogen content. The most well-known phytoestrogen genistein and daidzein have estrogen activity and are well-known infertility ingredients. It is interesting to note that cold weather induces an increase in these ingredients[2]. This is in line with the formation of unsaturated fats in cold weather and saturated fats in warm weather. Both males and females are affected by soy, in males it lowers sperm count and reduced mobility[3], in females it can increased abortion and reduces offspring[4]. As with estrogen, estrogenic food like soy is associated with aggression, isolation, and infertility. Both soy and estrogen increase cortisol[5][6].
We present the case of a 19-y-old type 1 diabetic but otherwise healthy man with sudden onset of loss of libido and erectile dysfunction after the ingestion of large quantities of soy-based products in a vegan-style diet.”
